    1. japenese showed how hard Japenise medieval life was for peasants and change from peasant to warlord status Also enjoyed the love story between Takeo and Lady Keade Also enjoyed the powers he inherits from his bilogical family on his fathers side.endings of all storys are bitter sweet be warned

    2. I NEVER read fantasy but took someone s recommendation and read all three of these books Loved them They take place in Asia and are enchantment than fantasy Suitable for YA readers and folks my age Pure delight

    3. I read this trilogy and the prequel as a teenager and was entranced I cannot review the content specifically as it has been too long since I read it, but even after a decade the characters, the setting and the story still resonate with me profoundly I would highly recommend these books to young adults with specific mention to the prequel which is the most excellent of the lot.

    4. I found much of the first of the Tales of the Otori series Across the Nightingale Floor completely compelling Hearn sets the action in a supposedly fictionalized version of feudal Japan, however the characters and culture are so firmly placed in the world of ninja and geisha that world building doesn t actually seem necessary or indeed to have taken place It is as if Hearn has set the series in feudal Japan while giving herself an out for making mistakes of course I could just not know enough to [...]

    7. This series is one of my favorite It has great action, plot, and characters I have seen some reviews that complain about Hearn s not calling groups by the right name specifically the samurai which she calls the warrior class and the ninja which she calls the tribe, the reason for this I read on her website is that she wanted to rid the stereotype of those groups while reading the books So that is no reason to dislike the books it is actually a good thing But that I did not bother me they were gr [...]

    8. I remember starting on this series when Across the Nightingale Floor first came out in 2002 My Flat Mate, working in a book store at the time, brought home this slightly damaged copy of Hearn s book Well the rest is history I thought it was a pretty cover picked it up, and did not move from my broken couch we were students at the time till I finished it Much to said Flat Mate s annoyance she was still half way through it.I love this series It is where myth and history blend in together seamlessl [...]

    9. I accidentally stumbled upon these books after my sister left them for me when she moved out, at first they appeared long, confusing and a lot like hard work I was very wrong Fantasy, romance, Japan, family, mythology, politics I was in tears when I only had 20 pages left because I never wanted to leave the world Lian Hearn had created My only complaint is the realistic ending, my departure from the beautiful trilogy was quite the depressing reminder of reality.I 100% recommend this to all histo [...]

    10. Brilliant book In fact I loved the whole series, number 1 right up to 5 were fabulous page turners I definitely advise that you read this if you, like me, are enthralled by Japanese culture and history AND if you enjoy a large helping of fantasy With warring clans, mystery, magic, loyalty, betrayal and true love what s not to love.

    11. I ve read all of the books and I fell in love This trilogy made me fall in love with reading in the first place, it is so beautifully written and you ll fall in love with each and every character, you ll cry and you ll laugh and you ll be sad and you ll be happy but oh what so wonderful feeling they are I d recommend this book to each and every person if I could Absolutely amazing.

    12. One of the biggest influences on my current RPG campaign As a white Westerner interested in showing a diverse imaginary world than faux European, I m interested in other people charting similar waters I think Hearn stays clear of appropriation through research respect, personally MK

    13. An intriguing blend of various Japanese themes and settings, including early Christianity, NInja skills and lovers playing out their passion across an epic and volatile environment Some dramatic and exciting set pieces.

    14. Hearn uses his imagination brilliantly to keep any reader constantly in suspense across a range of topics including love, death, magic, growth and so on I read these books eyes ago but remember everything so vividly to this day.

    15. It s great Full of excitement war, romance and ancient fantasy The ending is a little bit sad though But the story is nicely written, make it a good ending although it is sad haha.It is highly recommended.

    16. Ever since reading the first in this series, Across the Nightengale Floor, I ve been a huge fan of Lian Hearn I am drawn to the world of ancient Japan, and these books are a wonderful way to travel there, while being captivated by the romance, action and intrigue of the fantasy story.

    17. This is a beautifully written story with well thought out, relatable characters One of my favourite sagas.

    18. I wish I can tell history the way these books did The details are awesome, gave me a real visual of every character.

    19. Across the Nightingale Floor, Grass for his Pillow, Brilliance of the Moon A wonderful trilogy of adventure, magic, romance and war

    20. Absolutely love these books Incredibly descriptive and I find myself completely transported to Takeo and Kaede s beautiful, terrible world Love, love, love.
