    1. Robert Frost Gail Harvey

Flinty, moody, plainspoken and deep, Robert Frost was one of America s most popular 20th century poets Frost was farming in Derry, New Hampshire when, at the age of 38, he sold the farm, uprooted his family and moved to England, where he devoted himself to his poetry His first two books of verse, A Boy s Will 1913 and North of Boston 1914 , were immediate successes In 1915 he returned to the United States and continued to write while living in New Hampshire and then Vermont His pastoral images of apple trees and stone fences along with his solitary, man of few words poetic voice helped define the modern image of rural New England Frost s poems include Mending Wall Good fences make good neighbors , Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening Whose woods these are I think I know , and perhaps his most famous work, The Road Not Taken Two roads diverged in a wood, and I I took the one less traveled by Frost was awarded the Pulitzer Prize for poetry four times in 1924, 1931, 1937 and 1943 He also served as Consultant in Poetry to the Library of Congress from 1958 59 that position was renamed as Poet Laureate Consultant in Poetry or simply Poet Laureate in 1986.Frost recited his poem The Gift Outright at the 1961 inauguration of John F Kennedy Frost attended both Dartmouth College and Harvard, but did not graduate from either school Frost preferred traditional rhyme and meter in poetry his famous dismissal of free verse was, I d just as soon play tennis with the net down.

    1. It is not without excellent reason that Robert Frost is considered one of the greatest American poets of the century What impresses me most about his poems is the usage of simple and colloquial words to portray ordinary, everyday incidents that have a deeper, denser meaning hidden within Clear and conversational lines conceal subtle philosophies on life and complex social issues at their core Also, I find myself completely drawn to the stunning picture he paints with his expressive poems on natu [...]

    2. Since I was a little girl, Frost could do no wrong He still can t The cadence of his lines, the lucidity of his poetry, always transports me I m a little upset that my edition isn t listed here on GR though Mine has quite a few poems from his earlier and later life.

    3. I enjoyed the themes rather than the actual poetry Frost seems to write poems made to be dissected in English classes Oftentimes they are set up as short stories, heavy on the dialogue, than poems In fact, not that I m a poetry expert, I could not detect what exactly made some of these poems verse rather than just spaced out prose I had a difficult time understanding a lot of these poems, but there were some that were really lovely I d be interested in rereading this collection in the future, b [...]

    4. we make ourselves a place apart behind light words that tease and flout but oh, the agitated heart till someone find us really out Revelation

    5. Ah, Robert Frost the man who convinced me that I hated poetry Years ago, I was assigned to read some of his poetry for school and, let s just say, I read them as if I was taking cough syrup Note Why, yes I hate cough syrup I ll never forget the fateful night where I spit a mouthful of it across the bathroom Good times Anyhow, so I didn t enjoy his poems because I was reading them with the wrong attitude c If Carl Sandburg hadn t come along later and shown me what a wonderful thing poetry can be, [...]

Drama awesome Form pleasurable Theme Got a little fed up with all that personifying nature alackadaying that nature can t be personified Here s the best antidote It s a strange courageyou give me, ancient star Shine alone in the sunrisetoward which you lend no part IShine alone, shine nakedly, shine like bronzethat reflects neither my face nor any inner partof my being, shine like fire, that mirrors nothing.IILend no part to any humanity that suffusesyou in its own light.Be not chimera of mornin [...]

    7. Robert Frost Selected Poems is a Collection of Robert Frost s work Some of my Favorite works include, Home Burial, The Death of the Hired Man, The Line Gang, The Axe Helve, and The Black Cottage I enjoyed these five works the most because it shows how people in my opinion think and talk to each other I think that The Death of the Hired Man is probably my favorite because it goes to show you how some people are stuck in their ways and even when they are offered better, they take the route they kn [...]

    8. One of my wishes is that those dark trees,So old and firm they scarcely show the breeze,Were not, as it were, the merest mask of gloom,But stretched away unto the edge of doom.I do not see why I should ever turn back,Or those should not set forth upon my trackTo overtake me, who should miss me hereAnd long to know if still I held them dear. They would not find me changed from him they knew Only sure of all I thought was true I ll be honest, aside from two or three poems, I was previously not a h [...]

    9. I ve read and reread this collection, and it has a lot to offer I still find that my favorite is Into My Own I always enjoy a discussion in which no doubt I will eventually say But the name of that poem is The Road Not Taken and that takes the poem off in a totally different direction I haven t read a lot of poetry, but have read much Ginsberg Howl is a must for all readers, imho and Merrill as of late And so far, I haven t read any poetry collection as good as James Merrill s stunning A Scatter [...]

    10. Robert Frost Selected Poems has many long poems and short ones but my favorites were as follows Mending Wall because it tells how two neighbors build a wall and fix it in the springtime, and how they mend themselves well mending the wall The Oven Bird because how the oven bird tells you when fall is coming The poem that I liked the most is The Fear because it builds up suspense and then at the end of the poem it leaves you to imagine what happens All the types of poems make you feel a certain wa [...]

    11. A time to talk. When a friend calls to me from the roadAnd slows his horse to a meaning walk,I don t stand still and look aroundOn all the hills I haven t hoed,And a shout from where I am, What is it No, not as there is a time to talk.I thrust my hoe in the mellow ground,Blade end up and five feet tall,And plod I go up to the stone wallFor a friendly visit. What s not to love about a poem or this poet

    12. There were a couple good poems, mostly the ones we all know and love Overall the only reason I would even consider keeping this book on my shelf is because the cover is so beautiful, but that is not enough for it to take up permanent residence on my bookcase Sorry Robert Frost, but you were just so so for me.

    13. A whole generation influenced and moved by a Boy s will.He has a true juvenile dialogue with his readers. On Greece he shows a remarkable knowledge of History but my favorite is The road not taken a philosophical poetry about the choices we made in our lives.

    14. Poetry is not really my thing but I much prefer Poe over this very nature based stuff Fire Ice is still my favorite of Frost s though.

    15. This was a great book filled with emotion Many of the poems made me think about the choices in life and made me want to keep rereading it I recommend this book to anyone that loves poetry.

    16. I was kinda bored but I loved fire and ice Btw this wasn t my exact edition, mine is a bit shorter, but this was the closest.

    17. This is a collection of collections It gathers the first three of Robert Frost s books into one volume A Boy s Will, North of Boston, and Mountain Interval are all part of Frost s early work and they came out in a relatively short span 1913, 1914, and 1916, respectively However, one can see definite shifts in the nature of the poems across these collections The poems of the first collection feature many shorter poems that are rhymed and metered The middle poems are longer, are largely unrhymed a [...]

    18. In the course of my reading life, I have not taken the time to read much poetry This collection of Robert Frost s poems was at my house, so I decided to read it I have mixed feelings about this reading experience, because on one hand Frost painted beautiful pictures with few words However, I feel like I did not fully grasp the meaning of some of the poems.I want to try reading the poetry of Emily Dickinson and E.E Cummings, so I will be giving poetry reading another try Final rating 2.5

    19. There are three pieces in this collection that I enjoyed Unfortunately for Frost, his works do not age well in an era when brooks and rolling hillsides aren t seen as illustrious or awe inspiring I also found his narratives lacked a flow that carried me through his thoughts to the end There is no clear precision and I m confused after every piece A quick read if just skimming, but to delve into these pieces me costs too much energy to really care.

    20. So it took me a whole year to read this 100 page book, mostly because I set it aside for about 10 months I ve never been a big poetry fan, it just doesn t resonate with me But I like how Frost provided character sketches and illustrated life in New England through his poems.

    21. Not a fan Robert Frost is overrated and I am upset I spent 7.98 on this book Continues to the end because it was short and to give it a chance, well let me save you some time, skip over Frost.

    22. His poetry, at its best, is clear forest, clean sky, crisp apples, the smooth cadences of water, the simplicity and purity of nature His longer poems, which are usually dialogues in some sort of verse, aren t quite to my taste Frost at his best is succinct and doesn t take up than two pages apiece You could say I prefer him as a poet when he doesn t wax poetic.P.S Forgive the pun.

    23. There s a reason Frost is considered one of America s best poets He just writes like home Before reading this book, I didn t know that some of his poems are actually like short stories composed entirely of dialogue, and I really enjoyed many of them.

    24. I love me some Frost poetry, some of his work nearly ingrained in my brain and among my favorite poems Not that I love all that he did, and sometimes he seems almost lazy shame on me , but when he is on there is almost no one as good To me he always seemed like the guy next door, writing for his love and for his community and getting famous almost be accident.

    25. I m defiantly not a great poet, and you can bet that I know itReading this book is a challenge and funYet, I m not quite sure I will ever get doneSo for now on my shelf I ll let it stay And try to visit it again Come what may

    26. Robert Frost, A four time winner of the Pulitzer prize for poetry creates a new poetry book called Selected poems Along with some poems from his other three books, this book includes at least eighteen of his early poems that were rarely reprinted His poems range from love poems made for his wife, Elinor White, to express youth inspired by heroic figures such as Hercules.Selected Poems was a very Interesting and a very entertaining book for me, and probably will be one of my most memorable books [...]

    27. I would probably rate this around a 3.5 if that were an option.I have long loved The Road Not Taken , which not only highlights this edition, but is among my most favorite poems ever I shall be telling this with a sighSomewhere ages and ages hence Two roads diverged in a wood, and I I took the one less traveled by,And that has mad all the difference.Other than that, I am unfamiliar with the rest of frost s work, or at the very least amunable to recall any to mind I must say that in totality I do [...]
